British Values

At a regional HMI meeting in November 2014 HMI put forward the view that British Values are, by their very nature, what most schools are promoting through their everyday work in class, the ethos of the school and the rewards and sanctions systems in place.

Nor are these values unique to Great Britain. They are common to many countries and cultures.

So, through our work in PSHE, RE, and Collective Worship, as well as through the other subjects of the curriculum, through our system of rewards and sanctions, and through the development of our school ethos, we promote the notions of:

  • Honesty
  • Truth
  • Kindness
  • Tolerance, including religious
  • Democracy
  • Diversity
  • Taking responsibility
  • Work ethic
  • Generosity of spirit

We will teach these values through the whole variety of school activity. We will rarely be teaching British Values Lessons.
