A big hello from me, Mr Emsley.
This half term we will be continuing with the ‘Time Machine’ topic and in Science we will be learning about everyday materials. We will also have a big focus on the Christmas Nativity, with lots of singing, dancing and words to learn.
We will continue to have PE lessons on Mondays and swimming on a Tuesday.
The children are busy learning the phase 4 and 5 sounds everyday and their weekly spellings are linked to the new sounds. It would be really helpful if you could support the children with their spellings at home using the practice sheets and also try to read on a daily basis. To help build maths skills you can now access the ‘Mathletics’ website using the log on details in your child’s reading diary.
If you have any questions about any of the above please do not hesitate to get in touch.
I hope you had a lovely summer holiday and are ready and excited for this term’s learning!
Our topic this half term is Time Machine. Our work will be centered around different periods throughout time. We will research how our world has changed, looking into food, clothes, famous people, landscape, school life, houses, entertainment and so much more!
This topic will have a History focus, however we will use this focus to make cross curricular links with Literacy, Maths, Science, DT, Music, Art, PE and Geography.

In Year One, alongside our weekly Maths, spellings and reading homework, we also set an optional homework task each half term. This will always be open-ended and designed to encourage the children to create something individual that we can then share and celebrate in school together.
Our homework task for this half term will involve researching a famous person or event in history and presenting the information found in a creative way. The things discovered can then be presented however they choose, for example through a picture, song, poem, story, model etc. The more creative the better! This task can be extended at home into other areas of History if they wish, the more information we can share with each other the better!
Please check your child’s book bag on Friday for our class letter, topic web and further information.
If you ever have any questions please feel free to pop a note in your child’s book bag or come in to see me after school.
Here’s to a magical term of learning!
